Being a current 7G owner, I'm looking at going for an 8G in a few months time. Either way, I'll be getting a new car (wanting to upgrade to VR4). I'm not entirely sure whether I want to go 8G, or stick with 7G.
I will be doing a wee bit of (legal) drag racing, as my partner is right into that scene, but mainly I'm more interested in aesthetic modding (yeah, yeah, call me a ricer. My partner calls me his "little ricer". I hate it! He's just happy I'm into cars in some way...). It seems there's more options for mods for the 8G than the 7G. But I was told the 7G is quicker than the 8.
So, how much quicker is the 8 than the 7? Which one would you recommend and why? I can't seem to find many aesthetic mods for the 7G in NZ, but quite a few for the 8. Either way it'll be a VR4.
Sorry, not looking at any other generations, I didn't really like my 6G much
7G's are lighter, and are more aero-dynamic

i bet that has a good .1% affect on performance.
8G's come with more power stock, newer features, a better looking body, and a better club (more people drive 8G's so finding people to help you with your car is easier).
Only downside I see is the stock 7G's 140 no speed govenour compared to the 8G's 120 top speed and rev limiter, speed govenour.
Not how fast your car goes but how good u drive going fast.

1 wire cut and the 8g has no speed limit,
not a big issue, as we're not aloud to go faster than 100kph on the road.
if you compare a stock JDM 7G VR4 to a stock JDM 8G VR4,
the 8G shits all over the 7g in every department,
the 8g has more/better options. recaros/momo, black or beige leather, moon/sun roofs, carbon/wood/gunmetal dash, hi-vis dash,
the 8g has, manual or triptronic, vs the 7g manual or auto
the 8g has, TCL, AYC, ASC, the 7g has non of these (maybe tcl but never seen one?) so the 8G handles better
the 8g puts out more power and torque from factory,
the 8g comes with better/bigger brakes, and wheels,
theres alot more 8g clubs/support out there.
the 8g just looks better.
and you cant get a 7g wagon, but you can with an 8g,
theres more aftermarket parts for the 8g than the 7g,
the 7g is getting old, and the 8Gs just dont cost that much more,
remember thou, both are a bitch to change the plugs in,
bot will cost you an arm and a leg to get the cambelt done.
the 7g is like 500 pounds lighter than the 8g
Light em up.
id say 8g and not just becuz i have one, but becuz i like the body much better, parked next to a stock 7g with my MOSTLY stock 8g (only really have tint for exterior now) and the 8g body is way better, if the currant car was the 7g, id buy a totally different car
Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going Legnum anyways after much thought. Be much more practical with the dogs :)
Thanks for the advice Gly, was very useful, I was leaning towards the 8G anyway.
post whore! dont be hating on the 7g..dont judge a book by its cover..that stock 7g will shit on ur stock 8g..oh yeah i forgot blue tint adds like what 200hp...my bad..ur right 8gs FTW!! (scroll down)Originally Posted by 99 galant

jdm 7g vs 8g is waaaaay different than usdm 7g vs 8g.
usdm 8g's are heavy, comprimised platforms with little performance potential.
wheras the 7g......
has a world of performance potential. no matter how far you want to take it, there are a plethera of parts to choose from for any modification.

the 8G and the 7G have the same stuff AWD and TT, so they are the same stuff. i personally like the look of the 7G over the 8G.

Don't worry you guys, I've decided to go for a Legnum VR4 :D
Good decision :)
I would have to test drive both to see which I liked. Both JDM 7gs and JDM 8gs look hot though, no comparison to the fugly 7g/8gs.
7g for life!
That may be Gly, but the AYC is a bitch, and the rest of that crap you don't need, plus it add all the weight. My brothers VR-4 legnum feels alot slower than my 7 G VR-4.
Plus my 7G kills most cars on a hill run, including 8G VR-4's, due to them having all that crap that slows them down ;)
