I just got mine in the mail today from Rallifan, pefect condition BTW!!
I want to know what other 7g'ers have one and if there are any tips or tricks that might help me with the install.
Is there an appropriate chart for air/fuel ratio I can look at or is it just plug and play?
How long will the install take? If it takes 5 hours then I'll wait until the weekend..
Should a pro tune it for me or can I do it myslef? I am pretty self reliant when it comes to the G obviously..
I bought it for my "summer project" this year (couldn't beat that price with a wiffle bat).... but I figure why not just hook it up now in the meantime. Will it even do anything for my N/A 64 as it stands now?

I have an S-AFC but the 1st gen one, however its pretty much useless until I gather the rest of the parts for my turbo. Right now all settings are at 0. And it took about 20 min to install, majority of that time was removing the kick covers to get to the ECU. The New AFC has a bunch more wires though.

chip doesn't have his on yet. uhm a good person to talk to is craig. i know he has an afc on his 7g. installation on an eclipse involves tapping 4 wires and cutting one. uhm but be warned though.an afc can be ur friend and ur enemy. i remember if im thinking str8, sum1 broke into his car, stole his shit and fucked with his afc.with his settings all fucked up he blew up his motor so maybe tuning by a pro could save u a few bucks. rre has more info on the afc on their website http://www.roadraceengineering.com/newafc.htm u might wanna just read thru it so ur a lil bit more familiar

I did talk to Chip via PM and he's getting his pro installed due to the complexity of the unit. Unfortunatly, I don't really have that luxary as there is no one in this town certified to install it, or anthing else really.
What can I say, I live in a town ruled by 4x4, Edelbrock loving, moose huntin', gun rack tottin' hillbilly's.
So I am going to do it myself, but not yet. I think I'm gonna hold off for a while until I can gather enough info to feel confident. That link helps a lot Allen, thanks.
Its REALLY simple to install. Your just tapping wires, and one wire you clip. I dont think they can make anything easier to install then an AFC. The only pain in the ass is working with the wires in the footwell..your back will be killin you.

Also, no point in putting it in now. You have to tune and adjust everytime the weather changes like 5-10 degrees, just wait till you plan on putting in the larger injectors and such.
Not worth the pain now.
You can install it yourself. I personally had problems with the wires because my ecu is different from the one on the diagram. But after checking EVERY SINGLE wire on my ECU I figured everything out.
I don't know about the weather changes though...how they can affect the setting on your SAFC. Because temperature inside the motor if pretty much the same...if it's 10 degrees cooler then the air that's coming in will be a little cooler, thus denser, and denser air means more HP. But yu are not getting more air...you're just getting cooler air.
My friend has stand-alone in his car, and he doesn't adjust it for every weather change.
As for tuning of your SAFC...you can tell when the motor is running lean or rich, just by the sound of the motor, and by the rpm. I would suggest waiting until you have more performance stuff installed. Then you NEED to go to the Dyno lab and do at least 3 runs (100 bucks or so). With proper tuning you can get every HP with SAFC, this HP increase can be seen only on the Dyno. Testing things out on the street won't do you any good.

I am probably going to install it in the TSi for now, I know that engine forwards and backwards aleady. When my summer project for the Galant is done, then it will go in there..... and the wife can by an AFC for the TSi herself!
The install is not very hard if you have any knowledge of electrical wiring...soldering,splicing, etc.
It took me about an hour and 15 min. cuz I didn't have the correct pinouts till I was almost done.
DEFINETLY have it tuned on a chassis dyno before you mess with it yourself.
Also it is recommended to have it re-tuned if you add another major engine mod after its installed.
I adjusted my safc for the weather change in the winter...but I leave it pretty much the rest of the year round. It's not really needed to adjust it every 5-10 degrees.

Both of you guys said you ran into a problem at the pin out on the ECU.. can either of you remember the difference between what's in the diagram and what's actually there?
I can hook it up and not mess with it yet right? Is there anyway to just get it to display without actually changing any A/F ratio's? Like for RPM, cause my guages are off slightly...
First you have to look at the diagram that matches your ecu pinouts.
Most of the wires match, accept for the trottle wire I think. I can check all the wires for you most likely today and make a little tutorial telling which wire goes where.
The main problem i ran into was the air flow wire (the one you have to cut). I was using wires made for a pressure sensor instead of Karman sensor...and mitsu galants use Karman
So sit tight...the tutorial is on the way.

If somebody could back me up on that statement cuz I hate making guesses, but I know I read it somewhere.
Also, the s-afc has presets, so you can save it so that when the temperature rises, you don't have to re-tune, just go to another preset

Crap, so my 98 pinout might be different than Pavel's? Can anyone confirm this?
Also Jip said that the ECU is in the kick panel and other's say it's behind the stereo harness, which is it?

As for the ecu, well I have a 97 dont know what you have but the wiring for my car is pretty much the same sa the eclipse 2g ecu which thepinouts are on dsm vfaqs..the differences have been posted here:

I have a Chilton's thank you, and believe it or not... I know a shitload about my 98 ES. Generally when you say "kickpanel" your reffering to the area around the dead pedal and fuse box, I just wanted clarification on this as the 94-96 differ in minor ways to the 97/98. I posted this topic, I'll ask whatever the hell I want.

No prob. I meant everyone in general should own the manual for their car its like one of the best tools you could have, and if you plan to do any mods etc...its something that you absolutely have to have.
