Turbo Vic's Offical 4g64/4g63t swap thread

i am finally starting to put my motor together. i have a 97 galant es 4g64 and i am gonig to be using a 1g 4g63 6 bolt head with the stock 14b. i got my cam gears from sbr. i ordered a complete 4g63t gasket set from ebat for most of the monir gaskets. i got a better 4g64 dohc headgasket and goodyear timing belt from auto zone. just waiting for my new head bolts to come in. ups tracking says they should be here today.

taking the sohc head off was easy as hell. but now i am starting to think i should have pulled the whole motor because its going to be tight trying to get the new timing belt on.

i am goint to go today to get 2 16mm and 2 14mm freeze plugs. no one is really sure what size that small hole is so il' just get a 10, 11, 12 and 13, lol.

all my turbo stuff i got from a running 1g 6 bolt parts car, so i basically got everything but the 2g turbo ecu i need. so for now i am going to try to put everytrhnig together an not hook up the charge piping to see if ican can at least get it running

from that car i got the compete head, turbo set up, resitror pack, bov, piping, intercooler, various plugs.

i am totally lost on the wiring, i do have jips tutorial printed out, but i need pictures, lol.

i need advice on some motor mounts. with this setup can i get 2g eclipse prothane mounts and run them as is?

i am about to go outside and start working for the day, ill be taking pictures as i work

If your planning to start up you wont be able to because for the dohc swap you have to use the 2g turbo ecu. Though you can get it all mounted and run the wires to the cabin and get all your lengths ready so once you get it all you have to do is hook it up. I'm just saying this cause in your post you say your going to try and hook it all up and see if you can get it running and saw that you said you didnt have the 2g ecu. Also dont forget to get your crank angle sensor. Didnt see you mention it but just incase you forgot it cause i know i forget things when i start projects cause i get in a hurry

Good luck on the install, please take lots of picks and detail your wiring :) I have a 97 es as well and would be a great help if you laid out the process for this specific year...

Also are you going to run any aftermarket controllers like a maf-t, safc, etc....

as far as freeze plugs go for the block, the little hole on the paddenger side is a 1/2. i read somewhere that the large two where 16mm and the small 2 were 14mm, this info is incorrect. i am going back to autozone to try some more standard size freeze plugs and ill let yall know the correct sizeses.

any1 know about the 2g eclipse motor mounts? are those the ones i should use if i get prothane

Well The cam angle sensor is the item that has stopped many of this from atempting this project but don't worry, If you use the 2g ecu...there should be a tutorial out there on how to wire it up....

Also the the 2g motor mount inserts for the eclipse fit 7g models however you WILL notice more vibrations when driving... Although these prothaane motor mounts willll save your transmission from wheel hop and damage from what I hear...

ohh yea ... heres afew pics and info on that cam angle sensor

i got another quick question. does the 5spd galant/eclipse 7bolt set up use a piolt bearing? i noticed then i pulled my tranny off there was no piolt bearing and there wasent one in the new clutch kit

If your swaping from auto to manual than NO, There is no need for a piolt bearing... Just remember to remove the one that sat behind the automatic flywheel... Its all in Peano's tutorial.....search the tutorial section....
