225 are bigger width wise
hey im looking at purchasing some used tires sized at 225/45/17 ....i've got the 17x7 wheels already and im working with an eibach prokit, and kyb agx adjustable springs and shocks. I was looking at 215.45.17 but found the 225 for cheap. Any idea if these will work for me? the difference between the 2 is the 225 are bigger height wise right? let me know before i drop the cash...thanks:smt006

Light em up.
the second number on the tire, in this case 45 is the percentage of the width 225, the change in height and width is so minimal between 215 and 225, that you shouldnt have to worry about it as long as the offset on your wheel is correct, I myself just ordered 17x7's with a 225 45 17 tire. I plan on dropping the car this summer and even then it will be fine.

i think you'd be better off with a 215 on a 7" wheel.
you could run a 225 if it was 7.5.

I would go with the 225. More grip and stability. I currently have 18's with 215's and the rim lip is visible on the inner part of tire. It's too small. My next tire will be Falken FK-452's 225/35/18.
I'd concur with DOHC. Though on a 7" wheel a 225 will fit plenty fine, and is a common application by companies like Mercedes, Audi, and Jaguar.
I have 225/45/17 tire on a 17x6.5 wheel. No issues and it looks great in my opinion.
i was debating on switching form 215/45/17 to 225/45/17 still don't know what i'm going to do

fits fine seems to be perfectly squared fit. I wouldn't want 225 though it'll look bulging....besides, the steering feel is numbed if your tires are too wide for the mass of the car.
My steering wheel doesn't feel numbed as you put it, my tires bulge out a little but not much and besides I like that. All depends on taste too I guess.
Ray what wheels are you running

I am running 225/45/17 on my 7g right now, but I am running 17x8 wheels with a 35+ offset.

I'm the same with RAZ.. I concur with him..
so after reading all posts im mixed with different opinions, the wheels are 17x7 with an offset of (40mm) the tires are kuhmo ecsta ......should I take a stab at these tires or keep looking? 225/45/17 ....my car is dropped but not too low...i just dont want rubbing issues.....i had 205/40/17's on my last wheels and had such a gap between the tires and fenders, and had room to play with when turning......its a 1995 galant......

I ended up buying 225/45/17 Nankang Sp-1 Tires Brand new from discounttiredirect on ebay and ended up paying 108.99 for all 4 ! what a freakin deal ! running kyb agx and eibach pro kit, drag dr-08 17x7 rims with 40+ offset....hopefully when i throw them on in a week or so i will have no fittment problems or rubbing issues ! :smt038

great deal... but shit tires.
I don't even have to ask you if you do anything with your car other than drive it lightly around town.
If you tried to compete with those tires you'd be pushing the front end in every turn.
anyways, hope everything works out.
