This may sound stupid but need to know

I was just wondering what some things here meant like 1g i know it is first generation but when i see this or need to find it what am i looking for. And the other thing i know i have a 4g64 motor but if i call a auto parts store or go to a junkyard and tell them this will they know what i'm talking about?

The easiest way to determine generations is by the body style. Each generation is defined by it's looks and it's engine. Typically a car will run a single generation for several years (except for the 2001 Tiburon )

Most shops use the engine code quite often, so knowing it makes you sound more informed.

I think he's asking about the 1G throttle body and head that's being talked about in the Perf. + Mod's forum. If not... that's what I wanna know. Does it mean a TB and head form a 1G Galant or the 1st gen. of the 4g64?

Actually the 1g is often a reference to the Eclipse which has a 4g63 in it. People use the 63 for headswaps and full engine swaps.

Any reference made to the "1g, 2g, 3g" is going to be an Eclipse.

The 1g and the 2g Eclipse, Talon, Laser are also referred to as being DSM which stands for Diamond Star Motors, a short coordination between Mitsu and Chrysler. Just so ya know

Anyone ever even seen a 1g or 2g Galant? I never have, seems to me they started at 5..

Thanks guys I was referring to the head and throttle body swaps I thought it was the eclipse but wasn't sure and one more quick question the 4g63 in the eclipse the swapable parts are in the 95-99 models or does it depend on what you are looking for .

    sweet jesus...1g,2g..are all eclipse references.

    1g 91-94 model
    2g 95-99
3g all the new stuff different engine model cant touch it.

1g and 2g each have thier own goods and bads engine wise. And everyone refers the a 1g or 2g 4g63 or 4g63 turbo model engine. Not 4g64's.

As for throttle bodies, that is one of the differences, the 1g throttle body is much larger then the 2g. So if your looking for it, you will have to find a throttle body that came off a 1991-1994 year eclipse, talon, laser they all had a 4g63t.

The majority of parts we can share with the eclipse are from the 2g (95-99) model. Everything from strut bars, to struts, coilovers, shifters, etc.. When it comes to engine stuff, it depends what your doing. A 1g head has larger ports then the 2g, so it will flow better. A 1g turbo manifold however sucks and cracks, and a 2g manifold is much better to use. 1g tb is larger then the 2g, etc..so it kinda depends on what your doing.

90-94 is when they were released. 89 is when they started producing the eclipse.

Also, from 90 until may of 92 the 1g's had a 6 bolt motor in them which is the best 4g63T to get. Then they swiched to a 7 bolt.

There's 3 generations of the 4g64 and 4g63. The first generation of both 4g64 and 4g63 were the 6 bolts. Then came the 7 bolts. Then came the reverse mounted 7 bolts which you see in the Evo and the 3g eclipse and 8g galant
