Serpentine belt

My serpentine belt snapped, and some shit called a "hammer sensor" something...was messed up.All this out of the blue, has this happened to anybody?My A/C stopped working yesterday when i started my car.Luckily i took it in fast, cause my mecahnic says the car cant run without it.It ran for a day, and thats it.then it snapped completly.I am on the verge of drving my car off the bridge and into the river, and jumping out right before it falls.I wish it was the japan made Galant or something, they probably make them better.
