Junkyards are your best bet. You can use shifter cables and shifter base assembly off of 2g Eclipse too. Shifter cables would have to be from a 2g GST/GSX/GS Spyder, cannot use the 420a shifter cables.
I am using shifter cables from a 98 GST right now in my car. They are a tad too long, but they work just fine.

Did have to use the instrument panel from the donor 5speed galant? I ask this because i will give the list that you have from the ebay 5 speed galant stuff to a junkyard to see if they can beat the price before i go around finding stuff on my own.

You dont have to. Only difference is that some Auto Galants had the PRND21 on the cluster. Think only the older ones do, my 98 did not.

I have another question: I know you have to unbolt the bolt that connect the transmission and motor. Once i do these does it come off or do i have to force it off? I want to cover everything because i will not have in shop tech support so i want to have as much info so i will be prepared for everything. I seem to always get the worst case when doing things.
What are some common things people forget to do for this swap?

huh? You have to unbolt the trans from the block, then all 3 of the trans mounts. After you disconnect the axles, trans cooler, and wiring, you can pull the trans out.

yeah, you'll figure it out. look at what you're doing and you'll know what to do
i did the swap. it was pretty straight forward. the only problem i had was the dealer gave me the wrong flywheel and flywheel bolts.

Q- So if you found a 7g that has all oem M/T parts with it could you just drop in and play(clutch plate flywheel, clutch slave, and so on)??
yeap, Id just give the clutch a really good inspection before reusing it

Im debating about picking up a 7g that has tranny issues. Figured since Ill need to rebuild it, Id rather go this route. Since I know how OLD this thread is, and I didnt want to start a new one, I was curious if 1) Youre still around for questions. 2) How many of the prices/links are current 3) How much easier is it to do this now a days.
1- yup
2 - actually, everything's probably cheaper now days, but all links should work. prices and parts still relative.
3 - still just as easy as it was before
