    Valve Cover Gasket Removal

    What up Fellas.
Its been a long time.Sorry for being MIA but the galant was in hibernation. I was forced to bring it back out.

OK Im went along to change the valve cover gasket and tube seals. The Problem I am having is removing the old gasket. I was going by the book and in the book it looks so simple. The Gasket is not coming out easy. Its hard and seems like it was baked. Its has actually been coming out in pieces. The same thing with the Tube Seals.

What is recommended in the removing the gasket?

Thank You for your Help. Hopefully I can get myself back on site more often and attend some of the local meets again.

I actually had to torch the stock valve cover gasket and let it crumble out.

If you can't scrape it out with a flat tool like a putty knife, time to torch it off. Luckily, you only have one gasket.
When replacing the valve cover make sure you don't tighten the bolts too far, you'll warp the valve cover and it'll leak.

Yeah I had to torch it on gold galants car when I did his. The idea is you just want to heat the gasket and pry with the flathead. The key is you dont want to pry from the edges because it will bend the valve cover, sort "Stab" the gasket and pry from the center outwards. Heat it in small sections at a time so the heat doesnt warp he valve cover. When its all said and done if you still have a few little pieces that only partially came out and the new gasket isnt sitting perfect inside there, run a bead of RTV silicone, a small bead in the hole where the gasket sits, them immediately install it. The RTV will fill in any imperfections.

yeah. Throw some fucking rtv under that gasket and just cram that shit down in there real good. Yessum. That definetly won't leak.

When I replaced my valve cover gasket, I drove my car alot that day with Erin's, then I started work right away while the cover was still hot. It just peeled away. Be careful if you use putty knife or any sharp objects to remove it, so you dont bend the edges or deform the cover in anyway or it will leak.
