getting axle out of carrier bearing

i've searched all over for tips and tricks on this, again.. on most other cars i work on the axle easily pries out of the intermediate shaft but for some reason this car is a bitch.

don't know where to pry from safely (do not want to damage carrier bearing).. half tried pulling, prying.. i've even tried slinging the entire driveshaft assembly violently around my yard (was probably more an act of frustration than anything)

    any tips?

    basically, this ist he process:

    1) get really angry
    2) turn green and sprout purple shorts
    3) it works.

you guys taht work on these cars often are my heroes -- i don't see how you do it. lol
