    Opinions on wheels (ebay item)

Right now I have the cheapest OEM wheels on my 8g, and I'm missing a hubcap. Before I go sinking money into a replacement, I'm considering going for something a little nicer looking.

Does anyone have any experience with this brand? It's a set of Stern ST4 black wheels.

I'm not sure if the picture above works or not. Here's a link to the auction.

Also, what tire size would you recommend for it? I don't want to risk scraping the new tires, and I have OEM suspension still (that's 8 years old). Right now I have a set of Bridgestone Turanza LS-T P195/65R15 89T.

I'd like to avoid increasing total tire+wheel diameter if I can.

Edit: The price is $319 + $180 shipping for 4 wheels.

Hmm... The fitment guide listed it as compatible with '99 and up on the Galant. I'll see what I can dig up. Thanks for the heads-up.

Ok, another question. if a rim is 17x7, does that translate to a 175 on the first tire size #?

My original rims held 195/65/15, which translated to a total diameter of 24.98 inches.

For a 17x7 rim, I calculated I'll need about a 175 / 57.6 / 17 to get roughly the same total diameter. (I know they don't come in that size, that's just what the calculator gave me)

I'm really afraid of rubbing here. Any opinion what tire size I can safely get away with for stock suspension? Also, does the offset play a big role in rubbing? How much offset can I get away with.

Once again, it's a 2000 ES 4-cyl with stock suspension.

Edit: Here is the rim in question. It has a +40mm offset.

So you're using the 215 50 17 right now? By my calculation, that leaves you with an overall 25.5" diameter. Does the drop + stiffer suspension increase the danger of rubbing over stock suspension? I'm just not sure how much travel I can get away with on my 8g.

Also, is the 215 for an 8.5 inch wheel? I'm still too much of a n00b to know exactly which size to get for a 7" rim. Is 175/XX/17 correct?

Ok, I found the Stern ST4 in a 5x4.5 lug pattern.

    http://www.elites-wholesale.com/Shop...id/0/SFV/32431

Will a 175/55/17 fit on these? If it does, that would leave me with the new wheels at around 24.5inches in diameter (very close to the OEM design size).

Edit: Is that tire size even available?

uhhhh I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as a 175 width tire. That is SUPER skinny. for 17x7 you can go 215-225. I am running stock eclipse wheels which are 17x6.5 and I'm running 215/50/17. The total overall diameter is practically exactly the same as when I had my stock 16" steelies on there

oh and the first # is the width of the tire in millimeters

Yeah, I was a little confused there. I thought the rim size and tire tread width had to match up (hence 7" rim to 175mm tire). (7" x 25.4 ~= 175mm)

I saw the tire sizing thread, but I was having trouble figuring out what tire size could go to what rim size. I was under the impression that a 215-225 required a ~8" rim.

So I guess that answers all my questions. Thanks guys!

All that has been taken into account. The sizing guide lists all the safely usable sizes on our platform.

Actually, I had one final question. Is 42mm a safe offset?
