Strange switch off in mid drive ....

Hello people, I have a 98 MIVEC 2.4 Galant and I have had a rare switch off (cutoff) of engine while driving ... I have to come to a halt then reswitch the vehicle on .... What could be the problem?

The world steps aside for the man who knows where he is going, esp if he is going there in a Galant!

not many people have a MIVEC sitting around....but then a random engine cut off usually mean electrical issues.

First of all, Welcome to TGC. I believe you are the first to post from the continent of Africa. I am going to go out on a limb and say he doesn't have access to a scanning tool, or perhaps it is not shooting out a code. With that said, you might want to check your fuel. Your fuel filter could be faulty, you fuel pump could be on it last leg. What is the quality of the gas over there? I would also check timing, and your idle control. When was the last time you had a tune up?

He still can read codes tho. his galant has the JDM-World Spec-US OBD1 connector and he doesnt need a scan tool for it.
