3 coats.. thats nice, do you know how they about polishing? was it 2 coats, sand and another coat? of just all coats sand and polish.

I've never seen it, but i'm workin' on a 79 camaro and the plan is to paint it, put on 4 coats of clear, then water sand it to perfection, and put another 2 coats of clear. I don't know how it'll look, but thats what my painter is saying lol.

they do this on show cars because it lets the clear lay down totally smooth, making the paint look like glass. This is a bad idea for a mostly street driven car as the smoother the clearcoat is, the weaker it is in terms of resisting chips and other impact. The slight waves in the clear are reffered to as orange peel, a good finish is typically as much peel as the car had when it was new, or just slightly less for a street driven car.
