Please god tell me that you used assembly lube on ALL of the crank and cam journals
pics from the last two weeks of me working on her. Engine done just needs to be timed and dropped in with the trans. :) Once the engine is in the car i have to load her up on a trailer and bring her home to do my wiring and finish up the stuff i need for the five speed. My motivation is through the roof i want to see what i can get done this weekend hehehe. maybe bring her home.
i did get the other two water jackets pluged i had to search for a place that had a .700 freeze plug. I used high temp silicone around them just to make sure they dont leak.

I can help as well. Im pretty good at building motors im just not worth a shit at setting timing. LOL.

Engine looks great :D
No dude. Set them both at the same setting right. Then use like one of those heavy dude paper clips on each cam gear to keep the belt in line than you work down the non tension side then you should get it done that way. I can do it but it fucks with me. The gap where youre supposed to have the crank line up with the oil pump marks has alot of room for error. But its seriously obvious if you go one tooth out. It just pisses me off so i get a friend to help me out with that part. Though i did get wise and started lining up the timing marks before i removed the belt and marked them with something visible and using that as a guide. Good luck to you bro!
Its differant though cause its the 2.4l block with a 63 head the intake timing is different I think.

engine is timed (i hope) forgot to grab my camera when i left. But now im just waiting on my intake and exhaust studs, and my flywheel bolts. Once i get all of that shit here which shipping ups always sucks i will be able to mount this bitch to my trans and get the bastard in lol. I swear once it is in and at my house ill be really ambitious and get it done lol, ill have to look at my dead car all day and that will make me want it to run again. Im excited as hell.
Anyone know how to prime the oil pump on this thing or should it be fine if i unplug the injectors and ignition, and crank her a few times. which i need to do anyways to prime the lifters and the whole motor itself lol.

timing done and good lol.

Take some pics of the timing.
I just unplugged the fuel pump relay and cranked for about 10 seconds and let it sit for a bit, repeated that process 3 or 4 times and it was good.
7g for life!
i've spent all kinds of time trying to prime the oil pump after b/s removals or oil pump replacements. When it came down to it, I just started it up and within a fraction of a second(just like a car that hadn't been serviced) the oil pressure light went off and my gauge needle jumped right where it was supposed to be.

i wouldn't have used copper silicone for your freeze plugs, mainly be=cause its not really designed for oil impermeability. Its designed for very high temps(like 900* ish)
which if your block even saw half of that it would be done.
I would have used ultra grey permatex, hondabond, or OEM mitsu oil pan sealant.
or, JBweld.
I'm sure it will be fine as long as you had to use a little effort tapping those plugs in.
did you set your t-belt tension so that you can effortlessly remove and re-insert the grenade pin?

The freeze plugs went in really tight, i had a bitch of a time getting them in, the only reason i uses the silicone is because i had it and need to use it up. Yes it is the red high temp but i dont see myself having a problem. I might have to drop the pan again before it goes in and if i do ill put some blue rtv on there. I acutally only used the red shit on the pan just to help hold the gasket in place so i could get the pan on.
Setting the tensions was a fun one cause i needed about 4 hands and i holy have two. I just held the gears with one and and moved the auto tensioner pulley to where i felt a little tension, tightened it up and then pulled the pin on the auto tensioner, ended up havening to put a little more tension on the auto tensioner pully cause i had a little to much slack.
I actually got really lucky on the timing, its right where it needs to be i was going to set it at stock timing and then use my gears to adjust it. I would not recommend buying the skunk 2 cam gears becuase the timing marks dont line up so you have to use a straight edge to line up the marks and i must have had to many beers bacause i had the exhaust side advanced from the intake by a half a tooth and it makes good compression with out leaking on all cylinders. Yes you cant check compression with out being able to spin her up but we know it makes it and holds it on all cylinders.
