Dude, that would be the voice coil. Not worth fixing. I see about 4-6 of these for sale here in utah daily. They usually run about 75-100 for a good used sub. It's just not cost efficient to try to fix.
I need help fixing my broken JL Audio w7 12 inch. I have looked every where to repair. I called JL and they told me it would be $410. Thats out of the question. I searched on Google and YouTube. The speaker fell apart about 4 or 5 years ago. I've had it in my closet since then. I figured that i can try and fix it and have 2 W7 in my car instead of 1. I think i could fix it. The part i need to replace would be the thing between the cone and woofer. Its kind of looks and feels like Film from a camera roll.

1994 Galant S. 90 Percent GS.
He is talking about the santoprene surround around the cone. it's probably dry rotted. It happens to a lot of JL sub woofers. I have a 10 inch W6 with the same problem and they want over three hundred bucks to re cone it. I went out and bought different woofers instead because they are out of they're minds. I can buy a brand new one for cost and it's only 30 bucks more.
JL Audio can kiss my a$$.
My store has been a JL authorized dealer for over 15 years, I had an old JL 500/1 with a stripped out power screw in it and they wanted me to send the amp back to replace the entire terminal for a whopping two hundred bucks.
I asked them to send me the screw and they said "it doesn't come out"
I told them that it came right out with an Allen key.
they said my amp was broken.
I went to the sound board and took one out of a new amp just as easily
I told them that my brand new amp on the soundboard must be broken also
they told me then that they don't sell parts
F*** you JL!!
pay 5 hundred bucks for an amp and then pay another two hundred for a 75 cent screw.
