I was driving home just an hour ago when suddenly, the RPMs needle shot up and down. Neutral was blinking and I tried giving gas and the car wouldnt move. Had to get it towed home *sigh* Anyone that has ideas, let me know or maybe it can be the flywheel?

check to see if the axle came out, highly unlikely but my dads car just did it do him and the same thing happened to him
no axles came out and i didnt notice any leaks at all, but when you give it gas, you can hear something making a " clack clack " in the transmission area. flywheel maybe?

anyway if you have a 4 speed sportronic, then that is not a true manual transmission, so you actually don't have a flywheel. I unfortunately do not, however, have an answer for you as to what the problem could be.
But what you are saying is that when you are in neutral and give it gas, it makes the sound that you describe? Does it not go into any other gear anymore?
where are you? I didn't think USA got tiptronic trans?

well that sucks. $1300 is a lot of money just to get an AT rebuilt. Time for a 5 speed swap? ;)
