its either that or the dummy light sensor. To test if your oil pump is going youll need oil pressure sender and a gauge.
ok so i am in the midst of turboing my 7g and would ya guess the oil light is coming on now and staying on. there is plenty of oil in the car, could my oil pump be going bad?

it all started when i got a bunch of snow packed in my rims and my car was shaking really bad then the oil light would flicker on and off. now it just stays on all the time but when the engine is cold it does not come on until it starts warming up. at first i thought it was just the sensor also but now that it comes on when the engine is warming up and stays on im second guessing my original diagnosis.
the wire is barely holdin on it
its the wire going to the oil switch.
Not how fast your car goes but how good u drive going fast.

is that the wire thats on the sending unit? i think its yellow?
yeah, yellow
Mine used to come on at low idle, and my oil level was perfect. I took 5 minutes to change the oil switch and the problem was solved. If I were you I would try that first. The part should be under $10 and it's easy to replace.

ok ill try that considering it all started happening when my car was shaking violently. the car does have 159k on the clock but compression is good and burns minimal oil. i guess the worst that could happen is i blow the motor and then take the 4 hours to drop my spare motor in. thanks for the help guys.
Ya that yellow wire came off the oil filter unit and grounded out against my intercooler piping when I was converting my 7g as well... I reattached mine and the light went off.. No problems since.

is there a special socket to take off the oil switch on the oil filter housing or what did you use m-rod?
yeah, adjustable wrench
like adjustable as in a crescent wrench?
alright its in the way of putting my oil feed line in anyways and since i have to take it out to install my oil feed line i might as well replace it. just gotta tune it sunday and its all done finally!
oh really, says who?
I think you dont know what youre talking about.
yes, by adding a turbo, which requires oil, the volume of oil in the system will be slightly raised, so you simply add a tiny bit more oil.
but, no (on needing an upgraded oil pump), because our oil pumps can still supply the same amount of pressure to the system, since the turbo isn't going to add THAT much volume to the system...we're talking ounces here....
