    How To: Change your radiator

Galant Forums Original Link: Click Here

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ORDER FROM: http://www.radiatorwarehouse.com/

Again another thread I can't find on GF anymore... This was my how to change your radiator when it got the ohhh so famous crack...

    So lets get started...

Jack the car up and have the passenger side sit a little lower then the drivers side so you can get most of the fluid out of the radiator. Now remove the drain plug.

Remove the upper radiator hose and the hose that connects to the resivor.

    Now locate the transmission lines.

You can either remove the lines at the bottom of the radiator or choose to go from the top by the motor. I decided to go from the top since it was easier to reach.

Now remove the bottom radiator hose.

Now that all hoses have been removed from the radiator it is now time to remove the fans. Locate the gold screws. There are four at the top and four at the bottom.

Here I only have pictured two the the four gold screws. Look around you will find them close by.

Now remove the fans and disconnect the sensors.

    Everything removed...

Now it is time to remove the radiator. Remove the two brakets at the top and gently pull up on the radiator.

Now remove the (whatchamacallit) from the bottom of the OE radiator.

Here you can see the OE radiator next to the CSF all metal radiator. This is for a 2001 4g64 Galant and here is the link I ordered it from. Great customer service and very fast shipping. I highly recommend this company! Click Here

Transmission line now attached to the CSF radiator.

Okay now place the (whatchamacallit) at the bottom radiator support first.

Place the new radiator in and then reattach the top brackets.

Reattach all the hoses and fans...

Now fill the radiator with new coolant and you are going to have to burp the system to get rid of all the air bubbles.
*Note: Waiting for Brandon to explain to me how to do it again*

Now put the radiator cap back on tightly and you are all good to go...

    All done!

nice write up. The plug is called a "drain plug"

You can also leave the fans on there and remove them once the radiator is out of the car, if it's a bit easier. Just unplug the sensors, then remove the whole assembly.

Also would like to note: My CSF all metal radiator start leaking on me, so they're not indestructable. Still a lot better than the OE plastic ones though.

I don't know the technical name for it.. but I would just call it the "lower mount bushing".. or something like that.

According to the Haynes manual, "make sure the rubber radiator seals or insulators that fit on the bottom of the radiator and into the sockets in the body remain in place in the body for proper reinstallation of the radiator".

after i put the new radiator and filled it up then i took my funnel which had the same width as the opening and put in on tight and put more in the funnel, i squeezed the top hose a few time liquid went down and added a little more then i turned the car on put the heater to full blast on hot ran it for 3-4 minutes it sucked up some of the liquid. took the funnel off and capped it all while making sure that there was extra liquid in the reserve.

someone else methob might be different but it worked for me and ever had any problems.

    Hello all,
    replacing my OEM radiator (02 Galant V6), and am interested in additional information / suggestions from members with regard to;
    - plastic or metal?
    - 2 or 3 rows?
    - CSF radiators (good manufacturer?)
Thanks in advance for taking the time to provide comments.

I replaced my radiator on my 2003 Galant ES and everything went smooth. Hopefully it lasts on my way to work tomorrow. That is the true test !

Ahahahahahaha, no mention about detaching the ac condensor panel attached to the radiator. Just be aware, detach it before removing the radiator.
