    The Money Pit!

so heres a little back round. Currently Im on my second Galant, my first was bought around 2001, supercharged and 5 spd swap a couple of years laters, blew like two motors and then totaled out from an accident that was beyond my control (to make it short, it was parked on a corner and an NYPD squad car crashed into it). I bought an 01 around 2004 and started collecting parts for a Evo head swap at the same time. Picked up an Evo head for $600 and has been down hill ever since. I should call this this build the "Money Pit" LOL!!

About late 08' i started doing open track days/ road racing with NASA at Summit Point in W. Virginia other wise known as HPDE's (High Performance Driving Experience). Basically Im at the bottom of the totem poll trying to climb through the ranks so i can eventually drive by myself and compete in Time Trials and finally wheel to wheel competition which is very intense.

June 09' i officially put the car on jack stands and started the build gearing it towards a track car.

    here are the pre-build pics

started on the oil cooler (which I later changed) and front tow hook.

Now for the dirty work, pulling the old motor,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The next step was some amateur bodywork, I learned my lesson though, next time Ill just bring it to a body shop. It cost me more in fuel and supplies then it would have if I just brought it to a shop. Especially since I messed up and used the wrong primer which basically forced me to to do the job twice. Lesson learned lol!

    ,,,,,,,,,, more to come

Here's the motor build, Stewi had a big hand in this part of the project, in fact he pretty much built the entire long block, the short block was built and machined by Scott of Scott's Auto Machine Shop of Lynbrook Long Island, NY a DSM/EVO favorite of the area.

    the build is as follows:
    4g64 block and crank
    Eagle rods
    Wiseco custom pistons
    balance shaft removal kit
    Hafe DSM S.S. exhaust manifold
    PTE 55/57 billet compressor wheel
3g 5 spd tranny rebuilt w/ Quafe LSD by Gary of Mitsubishi Graveyard L.I.N.Y.
    AMS wet sump oil pan

    balance shaft removal

throttle body vacuum ports and water neck custom welded

the turbo, a PTE HP 55/57 billet compressor wheel (similar to a 50 trim)

I am curious because i am new to this, but why did you wield the vaccume ports up? Looking good btw its going to be worth the extra work in the end. I can't wait to see the finished product and what kind of horses it will push.

Thanks for the comments, I didnt want to start the build thread early in the game cause i knew it would be a long time till i would even be ready to start the new motor. So i didnt want to drag the thread over a 2 year span, but its finally time cause were gonna try to start it up this saturday. Im pretty nervous though lol.

To Djhah- those were emmision ports which i dont need any more.

Here we tried to press in the pro-thane insert to the rear motor mount using my vise,,,,
well if you look close to the base of the vise youll it cracked in half lol. looks like im gonna
stick with my old Deyemme mount.

So at this point the car is about to take a 300 mile trip with me to Piper Motorsports in Sterling VA. to get some exhaust and intercooler pipes fabbed up along with a custom storage compartment for the AEM.

The first time the car has been on the street in over a year and half.

Stopped for some coffee early sunday morning.

Lower Manhattan were the Twin Towers once stood, seen from the BQE

    The Verrazano early morning.

About a month later the car was ready.

    Compartment for AEM

I love how they welded 90's on the intercooler to eliminated the need for silcone couplers
    behind the bumper cover.

Great work done. I love so many things about what I see, but the intake and exhaust piping is top notch!
