Did u check for vacuum leaks? Possible Intake manifold problem?
My wife was driving to work on Wed, stopped at a red light, turned onto the freeway on-ramp and the car just died.
Now the car cranks but wont fire, NO "Check Engine" light, nothing. Cant figure out whats wrong with it.
Here's what Ive done so far:
1. Checked Spark Plugs and wires
2. Made sure coils are sparking
3. Confirmed fuel pump and fuel pump relay are working
4. confirmed fuel is getting to the rail and injectors
5. Confirmed injectors are getting signal and voltage
5. made sure battery voltage was good
6. checked all fuses
7. Confirmed Timing belt is working (valves move when cranking)
Has anyone had this problem? or can anyone think of anything it could be? Car worked fine up until that morning.
Yes I have had the problem my self.
Just a few questions first.
1 - have you ever replaced the timing belt and balance shaft belt?
2 - how many mile do you have on the car?
3 - when you turn the car on all the lights on the gage cluster light up. Does the check engine light stay on or go off after a period of time?
Crank position sensor or the timing belt may have slipped.
you beat me to it. I was going to say crank position sensor also.
When they crack or break, the car instantly dies out. You will still have gas fed to the car, it sounds like there is compression, but it just doesnt seem to want to catch and start. And sometimes they break off and mess alot up in the timing belt cover, but other times it can just have a hair line crack thru them and still kill the engine out.
Thanks for the replies, to answer some questions:
1. Timing belt was replaced when the engine was replaced about 40K-50K miles ago.
2. Mileage on the vehicle is now at 190K+
3. All the lights turn on and turn off at cranking, "Check Engine" light does not stay on.
4. Checked the vacuum lines and seem to be ok, no cracks or rips in the hoses
Thanks for the heads up I looked around the throttle body and didnt see anything, Ill take a closer look for cracks.
If you have access to a code scanner try hooking it up. I know when my belt broke the check engine light didn't come on, but the scanner showed a pending code for the cam position sensor. Of course in my case the reason the computer wasn't getting a cam signal was because the cam wasn't spinning.
