    Rust...suggestions?

So the only thing I hate about my car is this rust on the rear wheel well about the stone guard. Below is a pic of what it looks like and I would really like to fix it this summer so it doesnt continue to get worse. Let me know if there are any suggestions you may have on how I should treat it. I was thinking of getting a fiberglass resin kit and approaching it that way, but if there are some good ideas let me know. Thanks

You need to get rid of ALL the rusted area, and replace it with new metal.

Well, the right way always is.

I wish I had the money to do that sooner. I just sanded it down to bare metal primed and painted it, but it had already rusted through. It's good enough until I can have it replaced. It looks much better than a big spot of rust though.

I expected the Rocky Mountains to be a little rockier than this.

My roof is starting to rust so I'm having a friend of mine sand it down and repaint it. Not too bad so far so hopefully it'll work.

Just do it right the first time and you will thank yourself later. Have the body shop fix ALL the rust you have on your car at once, so it's all done.

haha i wish i lived in the south too. the only thing i have to think about is if it is worth it to fix the rust. i really have to be sure that in removing rust the right way it still will not come back

Is it rusted completely thru to the inside? If its not, for now, you should grind down all the rust you can see and continue about 1" outward of the rust into the painted area, sand all the rust out, or as much as you can and then paint it with some epoxy primer or even a self etching primer and then paint to prevent the rust from spreading further. If its not rusted all the way thru, there is no reason it would need to be replaced.
