im usually not one to argue about something, epecially not on the internet, but every so often a post comes up somewhere where i gotta call the person out.
speed bumps, dips, potholes, dirt roads, and hopping off curbs have all been done in this car in the past two weeks wince ive had the bumper on. and to be honest my bumper is probably more likely to stay on then half the zip-tied hondas running on the streets today.
everything you see in these pics that looks wrong, or half done, or like its just asking to come apart is actually that way because its the way it would stay on. the only reason it looks bad is because i have a minimum wage job so i cant afford the luxury of an aesthetically pleasing front end. however if you've happened to browse the "how many miles on your G" thread, you would know this car has less than 50,000 miles so the engine is top notch, and for the less than $1000 it took to get it on the road, its the best damn car i could ask for.
and not to mention the cops can pull me over for it, but cant do anything about it because its street legal and considered safe by the DMV, trust me, it took me 2 months to get this thing to a point where i was confident it would pass all its inspections. as far as the law is concerned i could remove the bumper, grill, and hood, and run it with just headlights and fenders, and the cops still have no reason to pull me over
so to everyone: Its not about looks, its about function. if you have a comment to say to be funny, so be it, but if your gunna say some crap about it not being safe, or a POS, that just a dick thing to do...
now im sorry if anyone thinks this post is out of line or disrespectful, but insults to my car is out of line IMO. criticism is one think, but if your just gunna bag on it, type it out and delete it, it has no place here.
now to keep in line with the topic of this thread, heres a pic right before the inspections the car went through (that it passed)

In Ivory G defense, he wasn't talking crap. He basically letting you know the car is not 100% safe to drive on the streets just yet. (I think u need to re read what he wrote Seriously)
You just asking for trouble aren't ya!!! Dont forget you make minimum wage, I don't think u can afford putting more money in the car because of your lack or should i say ignorance towards the Galant.
Really I think u need to double check the Vehicle safety code for CA, because yes a cop can pull you over a write you a citation for unsafe vehicle If u drive with out a hood in the state of California.
Again he was just pointing out the car dose not look safe to drive and I have to admit i agree with him!!! Theres alot of information on this site and we are all here to help each other... No need to get all butt hurt he was just letting you know the car looks unsafe!!!!
Im sorry but i still don't see how he was out of line, tho i do see you getting out of line about someone concerned about your safety and the safety of others and you possibly causing more damage to your car...
Con grads, Now take that Hood off and go get it inspected like you mention earlier and see if you pass ;)
Now Back on topic !!

the word "hood" only appears 3 times in the vehicle code

here talking about off highway lights

and here stating that if you where referred to CHP for inspection they will inspect the integrity of the parts listed
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d03/vc5505.htm
you could also look for "engine cover" but no occurrences. ive been up and down the vehicle code several times for various reasons and nowhere have i found that a hood is required equipment on a vehicle. but yeah if you know the law or can find it please shoot me a link, i have half this stuff printed out and in my car for if i ever get pulled over, alot of lighting ones too for when i used to have my s-10
i honestly dont understand what about this car you are saying is unsafe, if your pointing out the way the bumper is sagging have you read anything else ive posted? its not just hanging there, is that far down because its bolted that way to make it stay on the car. and like ive said, everything is bolted on except for the grill. but if you see something i dont please let me know, ive just done it the best and safest i could get it so that i have the car on the road and transportation to work
as a side note, when i said "hopping off curbs" i realize now that i gave the wrong impression, i dont mean just going on and off some sidewalk, i meant specifically like when your leaving a shopping center and take the turn to sharp and go over the edge of the curb with a tire or two. sorry for any confusion on that.
now a picture of the wreckage to stay somewhat on topic here
also i would like to formally apoligize to ivory for my outburst, i know i was out of line for basically raging but i just got ticked off for some reason, i think mostly because all i heard in my head was "OMG your unsafe! get off the road you ass!!" and wasnt paying attention to who posted it or why they would. i honestly dont see anything on this car that is unsafe, like i had said, but i can see how the pictures can show it as being worse than it is/ and Jimmy, i hope you dont get offended at this post, honestly if you know something about the hood, help me find it, and what in the pics looks unsafe?
we told the city 1 year ago that we wanted that tree out
I can't find any law on it, but I know they want hoods on cars for pedestrian safety, if you hit someone the hood softens the blow, protects them from getting burned, and keeps them from having their fingers mangled by the belts like WhiteGalant (what's up, Fred!). I can't come up with a link to back that up ATM, will find it when I get home.

Seriously? You got everything all wrong, actually backwards.
Ivory_G isn't here to insult you about your car, he is only helping you. He's giving you his opinion, and some words of wisdom that could even save your life. You obviously dont know us very well, because were here to HELP you and not Judge you.
That is the whole reason why we post pictures of our G's here, that's what this thread is for. We post pictures and we get others opinions, comments, feedback etc. If you don't like what someone else has to say about your pic, then don't reply or even better - don't even bother posting in this thread.
We are not here to point fingers at people or make fun of anyone, regardless of how much money you make or where you come from.

Damn headliner is sagging like a baby's diaper, very annoying.

Since you seem to feel you can call someone out on this forum, allow me to do the same.
Number one... No one here was being a dick. Until now.
You can take your argument about Hondas being ziptied together and throw that bullshit right out the window. That has no legs to stand on in this discussion.
I don't care what the actual law says about your car being safe. Your car is a hazard on the road.
Your bumper is sagging down and looks like its attached with bubble gum. There have been hundreds of cars on this forum that have swapped bumpers or replaced broken bumpers with new ones, and everyone I have seen have been able to secure them normally using the original locations they bolt into. Except for you.
Your hood looks like its open, so your attempt to secure it correctly failed miserably. Again, many people here have removed or swapped hoods with much better success than you. Your hood has such a large gap that its a possiblity that wind while driving could rip it right off of the car.
I pray to God that if you are on the freeway going 70, your hood doesn't fly off your car causing an accident that kills someone.
I do applaud you for taking the time and effort to try and rebuild the car, but your work so far is completely beyond sub-par. In my opinion, your car is an embarrassment to not only the Galant community, but to all car enthusiasts.
The car is a hazard, and could cause accidents and injuries to yourself and other people on the road. You can take that as criticism or an insult, but its the truth. If that makes me a dick, then good, because you need to hear it from someone.

as you can see in the image, the bumper mounting location (in red) is surrounded by damage (green) i didnt just have a broken bumper/lose my bumper. i couldnt physically mount the bumper to that location without the passenger side sticking out ~3". which would you prefer? i bolt it like stock in the front so the side can stick out, or bolt it like stock on the side and then bolt striaght into the crashbar like i did? i will reiterate this for anyone in the future, everything is BOLTED TO THE CAR except for the grille. the bumper is not "sagging" it is FORCED into that position to secure it to the vehicle
the "large gap" you speak of with the hood is actually wrong. the light is pushed slightly down and inwards, and the driver side fender is pushed outwards. the hood is actually striaght, fully shut, and in stock position, everything you see that doesnt align is do to the accident. the hood is no more of a risk than someone driving with no grill. and to be honest i dont even drive on the freeway anyways. i have no need to go anywhere far to necessitate freeway driving
also polish, im not the only person who drives this car, im married to the woman who wrecked it in the first place 2 year ago. shes still a skidish driver. and i dont make a habit of hopping on or off curbs, but when you live on a major street like i do turning into your house is sometimes safer if you skip up a inch on the edge of the driveway instead of being plowed from behind at 60.
and again, ive already apologized, i just snapped before i took the time to fully understand all that Ivory was saying. i can almost swear i remember Ivory from the old galant forums prophet used to run. i know full well hes not one to just insult someone. but i just went off and then later realized i was the one being the dick not him and have already stated it.
note: having no hood is illegal in Washington - http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.37.517
Dude it looks like you have frame damage. I'm not coming on an attack, either. Take it to a body shop, and see if they can straighten it out. Nothing will fit right til you do.

Bdevx I hope you get your car up and running buddy, best of luck to you.
Random facts:
here in Texas there is no law stating you need a hood.
another funny law here in texas is that you don't need a front windshield, BUT you need windshield wipers, LOL.
Damn this is a long post..
What I don't understand is you have a minimum wage job, and "can't fix your car properly" but can do a shitty job on (attempting) repairing the car and afford a aftermarket hood. Priorities, learn and use them to your budget.
Dude, that's a bitch.
Lol ragee.
Ah this brings back memories of when I was new and everyone tore me a new one (no homo) lol. anywho, This x2.
x2
lolwtf really? That's retarded.
On a side note, your car is looking good.
So you bolted the headlights on and the rest of the front without correcting the rest of the STRUCTURAL components underneath it?
IDK how in the world that is safe. Everytime metal is flexed beyond its flex points, it becomes weaker, I hope you dont get into an accident.
well lets put it this way, the quote to take it to a body shop and get it done properly is in the range of 6 grand. as far as the CF hood, i looked around at every junk yard and pull a part within a reasonable driving distance (didnt have a car at the time so had to get rides from family and friends) and called several others in surrounding towns, nobody had a hood, or it was wrecked and crumpled so it was no good. so i put posts up on craigslist looking for that damn part, only reply i got was from someone who had that CF hood and would sell it to me for $70, lowest i could find on the internet was like $100 not including shipping and dealer wanted over $500. my priority was to get the parts i needed to make it look not as destroyed so that i could drive to work, a hood was one of those parts so i found one for a price that seemed right, just so happens i got carbon fiber in the process lol
I completely agree with this and what Pete said, I've gone over a curb accidentally maybe 2x and it was when I was in my truck which could drive off and on the sidewalk like it was a minor speed bump. My car got in an accident this past winter and I currently have no job, but my shit is all sitting on it better. It may be road legal, but if your bumper drops off and you run it over it can cause you to spear into another car, or spin at high speeds and then someone T-bones your ass. Not only will it be your fault, but someone else may have to live with the regret of what can come of the accident. Ride your bike to work and take the car off the road, stop paying for the insurance and gas and you will have much more spending money, honestly fixing this car right can be done with like a summers worth probably less of working minimum wage. Then you earn respect from the members here and aren't raging cause someone voiced an opinion about your workmanship.
