You are following right in my footsteps lol. My original was a 2000, when I drained my tranny fluid (before I used it) there were metal flakes in it. I literally had metallic fluid. So yours may have had the same beating previously as mine did.
I then replaced that tranny with a 2002 tranny, drained the fluid and found no flakes. This tranny had 80k miles as well. So I think you'll be good to go, I have no problems with my latest one.
Just make sure you put some good gear oil in it.

I personally use red line gear oil, 75-90. It's pretty expensive (about $13 a quart). So probably won't use it next time even though its been keeping my shifts smooth.
My brother uses Royal purple 75-90 in his gsx and used in his talon. Shifts are very smooth even after 20k miles on the talon and he loves the stuff.
I plan on using penzoil synchromesh on the next change. I have read on dsmtuners that a lot of people just use 3+ bottles of that and it works like a dream. ($7-8 a quart)
When I used coastal 75-90 (advance auto stuff), my shifts were not as smooth as the red line stuff I'm using and this was also the stuff that was used in the 2000 tranny when the differential went.
Should be okay, mobil 1 is good from what I hear. I just like using penzoil products in my engines and I'd like to try it in my transmission.
I hope she runs just as good as the last engine. God help it if it doesn't lol.

Here is what I have always done with tranny gear oil. If buying a used tranny, the first fill up, use the cheapest crap garbage 75-90 gear oil you can find. Put in 2 quarts, put about 15 miles on the car, street miles, lots of shifting, then dump the fluid. This will get rid of any crap that built up in there while the tranny sat, unused. Then re-fill it with some good gear oil, I have used Castrol HypiodC and Pennz Synchromesh. I personally prefer the synchromesh, the tranny always shifted well using that fluid and its significantly less money than Mobil1, BG or Redline. May I also suggest installing a magnetic drain plug, i cant remember if the stock 3g drain plug had a magnet, I dont think it did, but I know the EVO drain plug is identical but it has a magnet on it.
In my EVO tranny I run Redline MT90 and im very happy with it, I never tried MT90 in my 3g trans when I had it.

I'm going to use Amsoil, gear oil for my trani, have all items, just waiting on my good frien DION.
I'm I agree with Stewi on putting the cheep gear oil to clean the trani, I would use some marvel mystery oil on it too. This is like a trani or engine flush.
I'm doing that with my engine right now. I got some cheap 3 dollar oil and one quart of marvel mystery oil, i'm going to let it run for a few miles until I get my good AMSOIL engine oil that i order yest.
Umm going to look on evom for a evo drain plug.
Stewi, do you know if the oil pan from the evo fit the 4G64?
Yeah the EVO pan will fit, but if your not turbo yet, you need to block off the drain hole for the turbo oil drain line thats on the front of the pan.
I personally think amsoil is a waste unless its a fully built motor that has been completely broken in. There is a such a thing as gear oil that is too slippery. Its so slippery it slides off the areas where you want it to stay and hold a good film strength. There are large threads over on EVOM regarding amsoil and the like. The general opinion over there is brad penn synthetic oil is the way to go, I know the Buschur cars, STM cars and AWD motorsports cars all run the Brad Penn engine oil.

I used synchromesh and i will tell you flushing the tranny makes a difference. You should clean it up with cheap oil like stewi said then when your draining/ flushing it a new bottle of synchromesh or the cheap stuff and poor it in wile the drain plug is open this will help push out all the old oil etc i did this and my shifts improve a ton over last time.
Only sonata f5m42 swapped. N/A build in motion.
Awesome, I'm definitely going with synchromesh on my next transmission change.
You getting all this marlon? Lol
