sweetness
I figured I might separate my post for this build from the "member's ride" section just for the build.
So far we know of only two people who have done it. One side mounted the turbos and one has done on the cheap. We will be the first in NZ to do this build. All parts are new, in engine rebuild and otherwise. We want this to be like new, not to use second hand parts.
Plan for the car is sound offs and show and shine more than anything else. It's not going to be something just to sell, this is my pride and joy and will be with me as long as possible. We wouldn't be planning to spend over $10k+ on the engine alone otherwise.
We have the manual conversion for this car, just looking at getting a heavy duty clutch for it and dropping it all in at once.
A new custom boot installation will be done as well, I shall add that up as a completely separate thread though.
I will update as get more pictures of the build.
Onto the photos
New TD05 turbos
New radiator
Cleaned and painted
All pistons in
Bottom end and thrust bearings...three weeks later having to come all the way from Japan cause no one in NZ had them in stock.
Brand new steering and air con pulleys (going genuine Mitsi is almost a rip!)
Painted!
These are on their way to us now. Hylift-Johnson high performance lifters, complete 24 piece set.
Will update this post with progress!
There have been a number of people thinking we're stupid for doing this build, that putting td04s would be a much better option. Problem is, we want to do something which hasn't been done in NZ yet, not something a number of other people have done. We're not looking for the "Easy" option. And as to power output, no one can truly say what this build is capable of, as very few have done it. I believe the proof will be in the pudding. If it doesn't work out, it's not their money we're spending.
After contacting one of the two other people we know of who's done this build, he said "I have long sold my Legnum VR-4 with twin TD05 setup (dyno tested at 455bhp at around 1.4 bars)." and the other one of the two people posted this dyno chart, in which his setup is auto not manual:
Now the first person side mounted his turbos, and the second one blew the bottom end not long after and has done it on the cheap. We're hoping that we'll gain more than they have. But we'll see how it goes.

Guy here in NZ sells them, here's the auction we won it from:

This is what we picked up today, unfortunately most performance shops aren't open on a Saturday afternoon...and the one which was didn't have the oil cooler stuff we were after (not for another two weeks apparently) so this was it.
This my dear is function over form (I guess pink pulleys give it form, LoL.), far apart from Carbon fiber vinyl wraps.
As I said, I don't like the carbon fibre myself, so you won't catch me with it :P
And didn't you know? Pink adds the extra HP lol.
I'm excited to feel how the end product drives at any rate!
Believe me, so do I! I'll take vids of it running, we're hoping to get the whole thing done by next year. We just gotta get heads skimmed and acid dipped, rocker covers painted and custom manifolds made by someone else, the rest we can pick up and/or do ourselves, so once those things have been done, it'll be a fairly quick process. Just finding GOOD people to do those things!
New head bolts.
Heads stripped
New gasket set
oh nice, should be a monster!
Good to know people in the industry!
Heads are off to be acid dipped and skimmed tomorrow lunchtime.
Gotta take the engine to a guy in Huntly who'll make the custom manifolds. He did the work on this car which is a car my partner also worked intensively on (single turbo Supra):
Heads have now been acid dipped.
Head with valves lapped and plained
Left has been lapped, right hasn't yet.
Motor in the kitchen instead of a table? That's what I'm talking about, who needs to eat when you have work to do. Roflao
Haha yeah we have a small house, and the rest of the house aside from the bathroom is carpeted, so yeah, kitchen it is! We don't have a dining room table anyways, we sit and eat in the lounge on the couch lol We had to move the fridge to make more room for the working on the motor though!
The motor is looking good!It looks like it is just about done, nice work.
