Go back to your mechanic and tell him to check the rpms on his scan tool and see if it matches what is said on the cluster. If they have a dyno like at my job he can get it up to 60 mph and see if the numbers match. Didn't even think of that...
Replace your gauge cluster. Either the needles were not placed correctly or their mechanism broke, it doesn't take much to ruin them.
If PO replaced the whole cluster he probably got the wrong one.

Wow, glad I mentioned that little tidbit.
Now I wonder if the miles are accurate, lol. Gotta love buying used cars.
Found a tutorial on this site to swap odometers to keep the mileage consistent. The video link was broken though. Anyone have that video or an updated link?
You guys are awesome! No telling how long I would've chased this issue.
Just purchased an '01 GTZ cluster. I'll post an update when I get it installed.
New cluster installed today. Can't test the RPM issue yet because the rear end is torn apart right now, waiting on rear shocks and mounts.
Everything seems to work EXCEPT the fuel gauge. Hopefully a fill up will help because it was pretty close to empty before. Otherwise might be doing the needle reset I've read in other posts.
Wish me luck!
