    SES Light + Car Sputtering

On the way home last night, my car started sputtering like it was hacking up a hairball about 20 feet from my house. Everytime I pushed on the accelerator I would feel my engine giving some very violent sputters. Finally my car died this morning. It wont start, I took my Intake off, guessing that my intake might be to clogged. But that didnt do anything.

Is their anything I could try that would be cheaper than taking it to the dealership (I would need to get it towed)? BTW It feels almost as if I have no gas left (but I know it does).

    Thanks

check that SES light. it could give you some insight to you problems. also sometimes a simple visual inspection can help out too.

It has something to do with fuel system.

I had that problem before in my TownCar. My problem was fuel pump. My fuel pump was old and it died on me. Another problem could be your spark plugs getting flushed. Change your spark plugs, if you didn't changed it for awhile. If that's not it, then check your fuel filter. I would do that first, it's cheapest one to do.

If that all fail, then you have something in your fuel line. That's gonna cost ya alot.

Ok I checked everything in my engine. And it looks all good. Maybe it is the fuel pump. I even pressed the pedal down a few times before starting it, but to no avail. So Im guessing that fuel is not reaching the combustion chambers. Am I correct?

    Thanks again

    I am not completely sure.

I think it's the fuel pump, too. If you looked at all the stuffs under the hood, then it gotta be the fuel pump. I am not sure if 8g has inline or in-tank fuel pump. If it's inline, you can do it, but in-tank is kinda hard for you to do it by yourself.

I doubt that it's the fuel pump. The in tank pumps are pretty reliable, even for stock. My guess is that you more than likely have a problem with the plugs or the coil packs if you have an I-4. It might also be the crank position sensor that's failing. Hve you checked the throttle body? It could just be severly gunked up which would also cause sputtering and rough idle, but probably not the not starting problem. Also, when you step on the gas pedal is the throttle cable pulling the TB open?

Just a few thoughts that might put you in the right ballpark...

it could be any of 3 dozen different things.
Im afraid youre gonna need some professional diagnosis on that one.

yeah I kinda have the same problem and just don't have the $$ to have it checked right away... mine is basically bucking at high end speeds and when I first start it if I don't let it run for a few minutes it does it... or after driving for a long time on the high way when I get on regular roads it'll buckk up near 6k rpms... and I threw an SES light once that was Throttle Position Sensor.... the problem comes and goes.. whenever I get $$ I'll figure mine out...

Manybrews I think your right. I will now have to get it towed .

Im putting my money on Spark Plugs. When we try to start the car now, it sounds like almost about to start but in the end it doesnt happen. And another fact is that I drive my car HARD. So Im sure that pushed the platinum plugs to their limit. What kind of plugs do you guys suggest?

    ONLY factory NGKs.

but I HIGHLY doubt its just spark plugs.

Another thing is this problem happened all at once. Right as I came to my house, it gave out its last few death strokes.
