I'd be interested to know... I don't know too much about the 4g64 to 4g63, but I do plan to do one of these someday. Sorry I can't be more help lol.
Adding to the madness of a thousand posts about the topic.... Ive read my ass off exactly 23 threads on dsm forum the evo forum tcg and 3g eclipse forum and I havent seen anything on what im about to ask.... Is there a way to make the Galant transversed?
Trying to find a whole 63 head for under 400 is madness ive seen evo heads go for 1k+ on Ebay which is my best bet in trying to find the head I need and whole kia and Hyundai heads are nonexistent finding any mitsus in a junkyard in Delaware damn near impossible....
Has anykne made a 8g transverse I figure thats cheeper then buyin a 8g head from ebay

Just a bit of info but yards near me have complete kia's. I was able to build my guys head w/oversized valves new crower springs and all head work for about 800 then what ever cams you want and cam gears
What do you mean by transversed, your engine is already transversed
you mean like putting on a older 4g63 head on a newer 4g64, and run it in reverse? you cant do that... confused on the question still

If you live in Delaware and can't find Kia heads you're retarded. Drive down to Maryland to the Crazy Rays yards. There are probably 60 of those head setups.
I was askin is there a way to flip the 8g motor the other way?
Anybody know exactly why the 2g eclipse head wont work on a 8g? I imagine it has somethin to do with the exhsust n intake bein switched around but is there more to it?
props to Silvertune for callin me a retard for not bein able to find a kia head in del then directin me to md....

you want the intake on the front and exhaust out the firewall side? like a K series? or did you want to physcally swap the orientation of the engine/gbox?
I've been out there you fool. Your states are tiny, EVERYTHING is within a two hour driving radius and if you really want a head driving down to Maryland is an easy option.
And no, you can't put the DSM head on our engines. They are completely different, more than just the fact that the heads are mirrored in terms of port side. Those motors run different electronics and spin the opposite direction. It's the same as you can't put DSM heads into Evo's. It's not about cost justification, you CAN'T do it.
if your talking about a 420a its a totally different block, if you're talking about the early 4g63t I think its the water jacket ports that don't line up on the head correctly, but I can't be 100% positive. Please get this out of your head, just get a kia head or an evo head. Its been proven to work by multiple people, no need to reinvent the wheel.
^no saying stuff like this gets the new peeps confused. Keep it stupid simple, or keep it simple stupid.
If you flip the motor 180 you now have a tranny that won't line up with the axles, along with 1 forward gear and 4 reverse gears. So now you need a new trans and custom bell housing to mate it up. Then custom motor mounts to hold it. Then rework, and possibly extend the exhaust, fuel lines, vacuum lines, wiring, etc. And that's not even getting into if the head/motor combo will line up and work properly. It will be way too much for a Dohc swap, which you could do easily by finding the right head and following tutorials online.
Evo head will raise compression to, I believe 11.5, or something like that. And I believe the Hyundai head will do 8.8 or 9 something. Try searching online for auto parts sites that junk yards list on. Or worst case I believe an auto parts store like advance or auto zone has rebuilt one you can gut and rebuild with performance parts. Even that will be way cheaper than what your thinking

The Evo head raises it to like 9.3, Kia down to 8.7 or so. Either way it makes more power and either way the compression ratio is fine for boost.
Oh ok I stand corrected. The last time I looked in to it I thought someone said a ratio of 11, but that did seem kinda high. Appreciate the info.

Someone actually fitted a Evo7 head on a 1st gen block in Australia so I guess it is possible.

The thread is pretty vague, theres not much detailed info but its still cool that its actually been done. As far as I can tell from the pics he used the CAS and water neck from 1st gen head. In his start up video its doesn't sound to hot.
Im not encouraging you to try it just this at all, I just thought it was a cool thing to share. Just be patient and keeping checking evom.net for heads. Once and a while someone sells there stock for $500 that's gonna be your best bet.
@Silvertune
420a is the dsm head correct?
4g63 is mitsu correct?
Im Talkin about the 63 head....
And the motor spins the same way transversed or not take a fan n watch the direction then change the orientation and it spins the same way....
@Unclepaulie
Either way works for me....bit k series style intake in the front sounds like it will be the easiest
Are the exhaust n intake Ports shaped the same?

i believe the 420a is a chrysler engine where the timing belts are on the pass side (which does not work on the 4g64. the 4g63 is a mitsu engine that is made where the timing belt is on the pass AND the drivers side. there is also a 4g63 in a non-transverse which goes in the mighty max or starion. cant remember which one exacly. anywho, the 1st-3rd gen evos, galant vr4 and 1st and 2nd gen eclipses all have the dohc 4g63 where the timing belt is on the drivers side. the evo 4th-9th gen are the 4g63 where the timing belt is on the pass side but i believe all but the evo 9 will work (evo 9 comes with mivec). as far as trying to make the evo 1-3 and eclipse 1 and 2 gens work, they wont. in all honesty, if you really wanna do a fun project, buy a 4g63 full engine from an evo 4-6, they usually come with the transmission, transfer case, turbo/manifold/lines and even sometimes a wiring harness and ecu. i got one from a jdm supplier out of Quebec for $2000 shipped and i was able to sell the transmission and transfer case for over $600 each, therefore only spending $6-700 on a complete engine which is what youd spend on a full evo head swap which is what i had already done and put aside.
Now I could be wrong but I don't believe the USDM versions of the mighty max and starquest ever came with 4g63's.
The US mighty max did get the 4g64 though and I think it was carbureted?
And the starquest IIRC only came with the 2.6 4g5something
