I would try swapping in a known good cluster first.

I replaced the timing belt this weekend and also the crank sensor since belt broke a wire. The gauge hasn't worked since I bought the car but I was hoping the sensor would take care of the problem. Any ideas where I can look?

Its been a while since I had to, not sure what to look for when probing the tach wire.

I swapped out my gauge cluster with a known working gauge cluster and the gauge still doesn't work.
On the right harness there is a white wire (thicker than the rest too) that sends a signal from the distributor to the gauges...idk how an rpm gauge works but that's the wire you tap into for a shift light so I would look into it. I think it should send a pulsing signal (one "pulse" each time a plug fires) so don't expect a constant voltage reading...idk though, we never talked much about gauges, not needed for the ASE exam
