i've used the mobil andk&n filters and i love them. right now i have in a fram filter and i haven't had any problems with it. can't say which one is the best since i haven't cut open the cases to see the goodies inside but i'll say that i haven't had any problems with the 3 i've used

This is just my experience, but I run Mobil full synthetic, and nothing but Mitsubishi filters. I hate Fram, as I've had several fail on my old Mopar V8s. Granted some of those engines were pushing over 100 PSI oil pressure at start up, but when you blow out the crimped seam at the top of the filter, I think that's a bad sign. Not to mention that studies have shown that factory filters will filter your oil better than the regular aftermarket filters. Think about it, they have to filter well, otherwise it's a warranty failure issue and that can cost money. If a Fram, Purolator or something fails, it would be harder to prove that the filter is what caused your engine failure, although it has been done. I did have a link to an online oil filter study and the resuslts, but it appears that it has been taken down. I know that Purolator was contacting the guy with lawyers to have it taken down, as it had kinda bashed their brand. Also, bewae of "racing" filters. I'm not talking about some JDM filter, or a freaky looking normal filter, I'm talking about something like a Fram HP-1 or something. These filters are made for high flow, and not the best filtration. They will let smaller particles by, in order to keep flow a priority. They are for racing engines that will be rebuilt every season or so, only. Just my .02

I've been using 5w-30 SYN Pennzoil and the Fram oil filters, but have decided to step up to 10w-30 Mobil 1 and check out how this K&N Gold Oil Filter works in 400 miles...

I have been using 5W30 Mobil 1 synthetic Oil and K&N filter. My friend who has a 02 v6 eclipse used to use regular oil, once we put 10W30 Mobil 1 in it, it runs like a different car. Better starts and seems to have more power.

I've been told that it's a little better to use higher viscocity oil in the winter than in the summer. for example if you use 5W30 summer go to 10W30 in the winter. the heavier oil helps iwht the cold starts.

from what i heard, its the other way around. since as oil gets colder it gets thicker than it would when its warm. so switching to a lighter oil would help out with cold starts by the oil being a lil bit easier to flow.

yeah I think it is the other way around, but I don't think I'm really gonna have that much of a problem with this 10w-30 unless it drops below 20 right??? The ride is running smoother than it was with 5w-30 but the oil i was using before was Pennzoil Synthetic (could have a slight difference). Maybe its all in my head too but it seems better now.
