you could also clear out the 02-03 tails by taking the mesh out of clear part of the tails. i believe u just reach in there and pull the mesh out.

u mean those red lines that run over the reverse clear area. cool! i will have to try it with my 02-03 tails

if you look inside the 99-01 tails, there isn't a mesh inside to remove.
