How to lean out fuel curve

What's the cheapest and easiest way to lean out my fuel curve to get more mileage out of my 02 i4? What fuel controller would you recommend for the galant?

leaner mix gives you more gas milege, but itll make you engine run hotter and will increase the NOx emissions. Look for a MAFT or SAFC

dont floor it all the time. if you dont wot, you can get great milage (depending on mods)

Does your engine have a MAF? If so take the MAF off, turn it over, if there is some black silicone on the bottom of it, dig it out, and it might reveal a screw, undo this a bit, DONT TAKE IT OUT! though. If you can do this, this will let more unmetered air in, but it will make your emissions go through the roof, and I also take no responisbility if for some unknown reason it breaks your car,

Also, be gentler on the throttle, dont floor it upto junctions let the car roll up to junctions with engine breaking, match the right gear and the speed, it makes a difference, in a VR4 you notice it

i use the MAFT yet still getting around 20-23 mpg. just don't drive crazy, easy braking and accelerations, coast to traffic lights and you should be ok :)

is your ecu reflashable? if so u can retune it for better gas and still run perfectly fine on the street, thats another way to do it

oh a manual swap would help u get much better gas mileage as well

There is lots of things that will help, you should have a learning ecu personally I would
New air filter
oil and spark plug change
fuel cleaner, you guys get like redex?
MAF mod if it is possible to do on your cars
ECU reset
Just carefull driving then, match right gear to speed etc

I used to get 14mpg out of my VR4(converted roughly uk-us gallon) now putting out close to 20mpg with the above

lol Whys everyone assuming I floor it? I try to drive like a grandma and I'm still getting mediocre mileage. Already did tune up and I wish I had the money for a 5spd swap some day... some day...

If you don't mind the boredom, try the cruise control. It helps. Watch out for the cars on front though.

Cruise control will use more fuel, its using electric from the engine, so the engine has to work a bit harder to keep the voltage up, it is also constantly adjusting the speed to keep it at a set speed, your foot is much more accurate at fuel consumption than cruise control

Cruise control is much better than adjusting your speed manually. Mythbusters have already tested this, and confirmed that cruise control is better. (whether tailgating a truck or during regular driving distances.)

I used to get about 25 to 26 mpg before ethanol and my tire swap. I went from stock 15x6 wheel to 18x8.5. I now get about a 21 to 22 mpg...which sucks for a 4 banger.

yeah i'm about that mpg as well. i went from stock 15s to slightly heavier 17s :(
just gotta drive like it's Sunday
